LED Lights Distribution

WISE is always looking for ways to make homes warmer, drier and healthier. With the number of children living below the poverty line on the increase, parents are struggling to put food on the table as electricity costs, amongst others take priority. A study done by the University of Otago found that one in 4 families are fuel poor. This is sad and is not the New Zealand we want to raise our future generation in. The cycle of poverty needs to be broken!

Waitara High School students

When Flick contacted us to help distribute LED lightbulbs to households living in energy poverty in Taranaki and Rotorua, we jumped at the opportunity. LED’s can save families over $300 a year on electricity costs. This will assist families in their daily battle of having to choose between providing food or heating their houses. We made contact with schools as they have tamariki in their schools who come from struggling families. The schools were absolutely delighted to be part of this initiative and they advised us that they know of a lot of whanau who would benefit from the LED light bulbs.

In the Taranaki regions the LED’s have been distributed to:

Waitara High School, Patea School, Stratford High School, Opunake primary, Eltham primary

Greypower in Hawera, Stratford and New Plymouth

Kai kitchen in Hawera

Tu Tama Wahine in New Plymouth

In the Rotorua regions the LED’s have been distributed to:

Te Arawa Whānau Ora

Rotorua Primary

Love Soup

Vision of a Helping Hand

Horohoro School

Owhata Primary School
